Sophie Chong

Internal Social Chair

Hi! My name is Sophie and I am a sophomore in the Iota pledge class studying Neuroscience. I am a part of a molecular and integrative physiology, where I study nerve regeneration! I am also working as a PCA in the 11E Oncology Unit at Trinity Health Hospital in Ann Arbor. I love studying in coffee shops and just being in coffee shops, so let me know if you have drink recommendations. I also coach tennis in the summers and love reading in my hammock! In the future I hope to be a pediatric neurosurgeon!

Apoorva Mirji

Philanthropy Chair

Hello! My name is Apoorva Mirji, and I am a junior, in the theta class, studying Biology, Health, and Society. I am from Troy, Michigan! Outside of Phi Chi, I am interested in oncology research, as a research assistant at Michigan Medicine’s Department of Neurosurgery. I hope to be a pediatric oncologist in the future! Passionate about reproductive health and justice, I am on board for the Lunar Doula Support Network. I also love painting, staying active, and hanging out with my dog, Thor. I love my phi chi family, so I am excited to meet new brothers!!

Annika Tekumulla

Hello! My name is Annika Tekumulla. I’m a rising senior studying Spanish and BHS with a minor in interdisciplinary astronomy. I am a part of the Zeta class. I rushed Phi Chi during my first semester freshman year and have been surrounded by the most supportive and welcoming people ever since. Phi Chi is truly a place where I felt I was able to grow at UMich. Outside of Phi Chi I work as clinical support for a pediatric office in Ann Arbor and also am a lab assistant at UMich Cardiology. I’m also involved in organizations on campus such as Girl Up Michigan, Heal-Move-Shift, and the UM Student-Run Free Clinic. I also love to cook and bake. I recently started a food account (@treatsbyannika) where I post all my food creations!

Jacob Stein

External Social Chair

Hi, my name is Jacob and I am a senior studying Neuroscience with a minor in Astronomy! I am from Commerce Township, Michigan and in the Eta pledge class. I rushed Phi Chi for the strong community and ever-lasting memories that I’ve made with my brothers. Outside of Phi Chi, I am a peer support group leader for the Wolverine Support Network, facilitate study groups in Organic Chemistry I and Biochemistry for the SLC, and do research in the McLoughlin Lab. In my free time, I love hiking, playing video games with my friends, and watching Michigan football. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in pediatric medicine!

Steven Petrovski

Hello! My name is Steven Petrovski, a junior from Shelby Township, Michigan in the Theta class! I study BCN with a minor in Computer Science. I have the privilege of being an arthritis research assistant at Michigan Med, a support group facilitator in the Wolverine Support Network, and a summer leadership camp counselor. Some of my hobbies include cooking (my mac and cheese recipe goes crazyy), playing tuba, and listening to EDM music (ask me for music reccs). I am very excited to meet new people, I love a coffee chat :D

Sophie Garonzik

Health and Wellness Chair

Hi!:) My name is Sophie Garonzik, and I am a senior majoring in Biology, Health, and Society in the honors college of LSA. I am from Baltimore, Maryland and grew up playing lacrosse on the club level. I am involved in research in the Department of Plastic Surgery of Michigan Medicine, where I work with an amazing team of physicians and students to evaluate the psychosocial impacts of gender affirming surgery. During my free time you can 100% find me at SoulCycle, where I am letting off steam from biochem or starbucks sipping on my 10th daily cold brew! I hope to further my medical career in NYC and ultimately practice dermatology!:)

Brooke Beccari

Hi! My name is Brooke Beccari, a Senior at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. I am Majoring in Public Health Sciences with a minor in Statistics! I'm involved in antibiotic research through Michigan Medicine's department of internal medicine and have a strong interest in the women's health field. I hope to use my degree to explore biostatistics in medical research and further my education in medical school to become an OB/GYN in my future.

Eric Chen

Hello! My name is Eric Chen, and I am a junior in the Theta class studying neuroscience and psychology with a minor in Asian languages and culture. I am from Okemos, Michigan. In addition to Phi Chi, I am also involved in behavioral neuroscience research, volunteering, and other pre-medical organizations (shoutout AMSA). In my free time, I like to spend time at the gym or watch movies so any movie recommendations would be appreciated. I hope to use my degree in the future and become a neurosurgeon!

Maeve Lucas

External Branding Chair

Hey! My name is Maeve Lucas. I am a senior in the Eta class, studying BCN. I am from Northville, Michigan! I am so lucky to say I’ve met some of my best friends in Phi Chi! Outside of Phi Chi I work as a Patient Care Technician at Trinity Health Hospital and as a Registered Behavior Technician at a clinic that provides ABA Therapy to children with autism. I also conduct neuroscience research in the Kwan Lab and psychology research in the MiND Lab. I really love mentoring and advocating for the mixed race community as I am an international adoptee - I am vice president of Mixed@Michigan that fosters a community of mixed race identifying students. I love hammocking, hiking, being outside, yoga (ask me about Aum Yoga!), Vernors, cats, and caffeine.

Morgan Kaplan

Hello! My name is Morgan, and I’m a senior in the Theta class studying BCN with a minor in Gender and Health. I grew up in Long Island, NY, so if you need to make small-talk with me just start talking about bagels or sunsets. When I’m not recruiting the BEST of the best for Phi Chi, I’m working as an MA at Ann Arbor Urgent Care, leading the Health Sciences UROP seminar as a Peer Facilitator, tutoring student athletes, or hanging out with my friends and my cat on my porch (come say hi!). I can’t wait to meet some new faces!

Hima Shapally

Professional Development Chair

Hello! My name is Hima Shapally and I am a junior in the Theta class majoring in Biology, Health, and Society with a minor in Chemistry! I am from Grafton, Massachusetts so I am a huge Boston sports fan :) On campus, I am involved in Project Sunshine, March of Dimes, and the IM Women’s Lacrosse Team. I am also involved in fertility related research at Moenter Labs where I specifically look at the mechanisms of how stress impacts fertility. In the future I hope to either specialize in pediatrics/neonatology or OB/GYN. Outside of Phi Chi and pre-med stuff, I love to read, ski, and pretty much do anything outdoors. Go phi chi & go blue!
